Ready to put it on a real box? We print it on custom boxes, labels and inserts.
Tell us about your project and we'll get back to you within 1 business day.
We'll quote custom boxes, labels or inserts with your QR code built into the design.
A QR code links the box to everything that won't fit on the label. Point it at whatever helps your customer most after they open the package.
Full ingredients, sourcing details or spec sheets that won't fit on a small label.
Assembly steps, care instructions or a quick video for anything a photo can't explain.
Send happy customers straight to your review page while the experience is fresh.
Grow a following without adding another line of copy to the box.
Make repurchasing a two-second scan, or link to a rewards program.
Verify a genuine product, start a warranty or register for support.
A code that looks perfect on screen can still fail on a box. These details matter more than the design.
| Where it's scanned | Minimum size |
|---|---|
| Insert or label held in hand | 0.8–1 in (2–2.5 cm) |
| Box at arm's length | 1–1.2 in (2.5–3 cm) |
| Retail shelf distance | 1.5–2 in (4–5 cm) |
Rule of thumb: about a tenth of the scanning distance. Larger is safer for posters and menu boards.
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores information, such as a web address, contact details or Wi-Fi login, in a square grid. Any phone camera can read it and open that content, with no app or typing needed.
Product boxes: a small code on the back or bottom panel that opens product details or tips rarely competes with front-of-pack branding. Food packaging: link to nutrition, sourcing or recipes, on a food-safe, grease-resistant surface. See our material and finish options. Ecommerce packaging: a code inside the lid or on an insert converts well, because customers already have their phones out for unboxing photos. Explore custom ecommerce boxes. Labels and inserts: always proof small labels at true size; insert cards give room for a larger code plus a short line like "Scan for setup instructions".
| Type | Typical use on packaging |
|---|---|
| Website URL | Product pages, landing pages, campaigns |
| Contact card (vCard) | Digital business cards, sales inserts |
| Wi-Fi | Hospitality, café or showroom packaging |
| Email, phone or SMS | Support and feedback |
| Social media | Following and community |
A barcode stores a short product number for checkout and inventory. A QR code stores links and more, read by any phone. Need a retail barcode? Use our Barcode Generator.
This tool makes static codes: the content is built in, so they never expire and cost nothing, but can't be changed after printing. Dynamic codes can be edited later, usually through a paid service.
